Sulphadimethoxine Trimethoprim

DISULPHA

Each 100 ml contains:

Sulphadimethoxine Trimethoprim

Properties

Sultadimethoxine is a long-acting sulphonamide.

Sulphohamides inhibit the DNA-synthesis or Sensiive protozoa and qrganisms by inhibition of the folic acid synthesis.

Sulfonamides inhibit DOn Gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, Nocardia, Actinomyces spp, and some proozoa Such as coccidia ang Toxoplasma spp They compete with para-amino benzoic acid in the synthesis of dihydrofolate, which is an essential co-factor in the synthesis of DNA. Product has a coccidiocide effect by elimination of the schizogony. and trimethoprim inhibits tne enzyme dihydrofolate reductase which converts dihydrofolic acid into tetrahydrofolic acid. The best combination in vivo is 5:1 (SMX:TMP).

The combination of the two compounds act synergistically and bactericidally. The spectrum is broadened by combining the wo compounds and the development of resistance is slower down. combination has a broad and bactericidal action against many gram-posittve and gram-negative aerobic bacteria, a large proportion of anaerobic bacteria, chlamydia, and protozoa.

Warnings and precautions

The possibility of potential damage to the kidney or liver or hematopoietic system should be

considered

-Use of the product should be based on susceptibility testing of the  bacteria isolated from the animal .If this is not possible, therapy should be based on local (regional, farm level) epidemiological information about susceptibility of the target bacteria.
